Ahaggar Mountains
They are also known as Hoggar. Ahaggar Mountains are a group of mountains consisting of volcanic rocks rising from the barren planes of Sahara with an average height of 900 meters. Due to its less extreme climate, Ahaggar Mountains are known for it's great biodiversity. They are located just west of Tamanghasset ( also described below) and about 1,500 km south of Algiers. Mount Tahat is the tallest peak in the area reaching 2,918m in height.

A common attraction to these Algerian mountains is Assekrem, the place where Charles de Foucauld resided in 1910, and is at an altitude of 2,600 meters a fantastic attraction. It can only be reached on foot. Added to the attraction is that this place is still in use, as a convent, still run by a handful of Catholic monks. However, travel and tourism is popular here.

The Ahaggar massif is the land of Imuhagh or Kel Ahaggar, a subdivision of Tuareg people. The most famous Tuareg symbol is the Tagelmust, an often blue indigo colored veil. The men's facial covering originates from the belief that such action wards off evil spirits, but most probably relates to protection against the harsh desert sands as well; in any event. Men begin wearing a veil when they reach maturity which usually conceals their entire face excluding their eyes and the top of the nose. The Ahaggar Mountains (Algeria) are the abode of Imuhagh, who are part of the Tuareg. Nearby is the tomb of Tin Hinan, ancestor and matriarch of Tuareg people. The Ahaggar region is very popular among the tourists and many tour operators will bring you here. There is no public transport, so transportation is done on a 4x4 and guide. The temperature is extreme in Ahaggar Mountains, it can range from very hot in the day to very cold in the night.

The main city nearby the Ahaggar is Tamanghasset, built in a desert valley or wadi. Its principal characteristic is that to conceal archeological sites which deserve the turning because of their great age. These sites date, indeed, one time located between 600 000 and one million years and are posed like vestiges testifying to the first human or pre-human demonstrations. It results from this that Tamaransset can be defined like one of the cradles of humanity. This situation is due that, during the period of prehistory, it appeared among the areas in very strong density of population of terrestrial sphere. It results from this that this city was the theatre of the evolution of man, of the migrations as well as event having marked the history of the remote civilizations come from the East, of Europe, of Asia and Africa. At the time current, one can thus define it as an ode in old times. An ode which can also make it possible to bring some lightings on essential points of the origin of mankind.
