The
San Francisco Zoo is Northern California's largest zoological park and
conservation center. It is located in the southwestern corner of San Francisco
at 1 Zoo Road . San Francisco Zoo houses more than 250 different species of
wildlife from all over the globe including endangered species such as Grizzly
bear, Snow Leopard and Sumatran tiger. San Francisco Zoo is a well organized zoo
where animals with same geographic areas are put together in such a manner that
it does not look like cages. Over 1,000 mammals and birds are housed on the 65
acres of the San Francisco Zoo.
Hours of operation:
San Francisco Zoo is open daily from 10 am to 5pm. Children's Zoo is open daily
from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extended weekend and special summer hours are 10:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

San Francisco Zoo Attractions:
Attractions at the Zoo include Koala Crossing, Penguin Island, Gorilla World, Lemur Forest, the Primate Discovery Center, an antique carousel, Australian WalkAbout, Lion House, the Insect Zoo and the Zebra Zephyr Train.

Lemur Forest is a forest like setting for five endangered species of Lemurs from Madagascar which are bud eyed and long tailed.
Gorilla World is a family group of western lowland gorillas with the most natural gorilla habitat found in any Zoo in the world.
Primate Discovery Center is home to ten rare and endangered species of monkeys including Columbus monkeys, white ruffed lemurs, and macaques.
Penguin Island is home to a large breeding colony of Magellanic Penguins that waddle about splashing water in their 200 foot pool. You can join them around feeding time which is 2:30pm on Thursday and 3pm on all other days.
Lion House is home to rare Sumatran and Siberian tigers and African lions. You can see the big cats being fed every day at 2pm.
African Savanna is a 3 acre habitat with mixed species including giraffes, zebras, antelope, Kudu, Ostrich and many other species.
The South American Tropical Forest has a large anaconda along with several other South American reptiles.
The Children's Zoo has domestic rare breeds of goats, sheep, ponies, and horses. It consists of almost 300 mammals, birds, and reptiles, plus an insect zoo, a meerkat and prairie-dog exhibit, a nature trail and nature theater. Don't miss the Little Puffer miniature steam train, which takes passengers around a 1/3-mile track, and the historic Dentzel Carousel. Both of these cost $2 per ride.
