Lake Shasta & Caverns

Shasta Lake is located in Northern California in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest surrounded with lush, green mountains. The lake is the largest reservoir in California with a surface area of 29,500 acres and a shoreline longer than the San Francisco Bay. Both Lassen Peak and Mount Shasta are visible from the city of Shasta Lake. Shasta Lake or Lake Shasta is home to a wide variety of wildlife species and offers several recreational opportunities, including house boating, camping, fishing and hiking, making it the most popular house boating and recreation centers in the western United States. The water is warm, clear and calm, perfect for swimming, skiing and wakeboarding. Both Lake Shasta and Shasta Dam are popular tourist destinations, attracting tourists from all over.

The ideal camping time in most Forest areas is May to October. Reservations are available for both single site (up to 180 days in advance of arrival) and group booking. During holiday weekends, our campgrounds fill very quickly. Majority of Forest campgrounds are operated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Just minutes north of Redding California, Lake Shasta Caverns can be reached by guided tours which include a bus ride, boat ride and one hour guided tour of the caverns. Also if you plan to visit Shasta Dam,  you can check out the vista point overlooking Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake and Mount Shasta.
