It is a 36 mile round trip journey from Napa to St. Helena with options of
Brunch, Lunch and Dinner, all of which include gourmet dishes and some of the
best wines in California along with panoramic views of Napa Valley Vineyards.
The Napa Valley Wine Train has nine historic cars that have been elegantly decorated with brass fixtures, flowers, white linen and glass ceilings to accommodate splendid dining areas that offer mesmerizing views of about 26 of Napa Valley Wineries.
Guests can freely move around in the train since it is all open, you can also watch the talented chefs preparing the food since the kitchen has glass walls. Since this Wine Train offers breathtaking views, relaxed atmosphere, elegant surrounding along with food and wine, it is one of the best ways to explore the Napa Valley which is one of the top wine producing areas in the world. Guests also get a chance to shop and taste wine prior to boarding in the McKinstry Street Station. The Wine Emporium features over 180 kinds of wine and gifts, Baubles & Beads offer elegant jewelry, and Unique Gift Express offers fine gifts.
Wine Train Options:
Gourmet Express which is a 1915 dining and lounge car in which a 3 - course meal is served that is freshly prepared on board. The two cars seat 130 people at a time with a choice of two seatings during the trip.
Silverado Car operates April to October and offers a open air seating arrangement. The area is decorated with pictures of "Hollywood Western Movie Stars," that were donated to Wine Train owner Vincent DeDomenico by Robert Redford.
Vista Dome is a 1950 elevated dining car with breathtaking views of the vineyards. A 3-course meal is served with a glass of Napa Valley's premier sparkling wines.
Napa Valley Wine Train operating hours:
For Lunch excursions the train departs at 11:30 am and returns at 2:30 pm. For Dinner excursions the train departs at 6:30 pm and returns at 9:30 pm. Napa Valley Wine Train operates daily all year round, it is suggested to get your reservations done in advance and a 24 hour cancellation notice is required.
Wine Train Tour Price:
The prices start at $50 per person for a train trip alone. There is an additional charge for meals and drinks. Ranging from $70 to $150 you will be able to enjoy outstanding appetizers along with Champaign in the lounge car before you enter the dining car for a fabulous 3-course meal.
Best time to go and Pictures:
Any time is a good time but summers is preferred since it is the harvesting season of grapes and offers better views of the vineyards. Also, Lunch Excursion is preferred over Dinner since it is difficult to see the vineyards in the late hours of evenings.

Napa Valley Wine Train offers several kinds of winery tour package. With the tour packages, guests can enjoy great gourmet meal while riding the train. Part of the tour is making a stop on popular wineries. However, wineries visited may be different for each stop depending on the tour that you had selected.
Castle Winery Tour
With Castle Winery tour, you can have a great lunch in Pullman dining car then travel northbound in the Napa Valley. From the valley, you will travel to a private shuttle to transport you to Castello di Amorosa.
Castelo di Amorosa, which means “castle of love” in Italian, is a Tuscan castle. The castle was built over fifteen years by Dario Sattui, a fourth generation winemaker and owner of Sattui Winery in California.
This tour does not allow children five years old and below. The price of the tour is $189 - $234 per guest.
Evening Winery Tour
The evening winery tour is a classic VIP tour to Grgich Hills Estate after it has closed for the day. Grgich Hills is one of the most famous wineries here in Napa. The estate will re-open exclusively specifically for the tour guests. The good news is the size of the tour is unlimited.
What make Grgich different from other wineries is that this winery is dedicated to art of natural winemaking. In fact, it is a Biodynamic winery and they uses grapes that are one hundred percent certified organic.
Guests will travel in motor roach to reach Grgich Hills Estate. Once you are there, the guided tour and wine will begin. It may include fruit and cheese pairings as well as sample of different Grgich Hills wines. Afterwards, you will return to the train and will have a four-course gourmet meal.
For your comfort, it is best that you bring warm clothing and comfortable shoes. This tour is available year round every Saturday.
Ambassador Winery Tour
It is a special tour of the whole Napa Valley. Guests surely enjoy this type of tour since they will receive priority seating and they will board immediately when the train arrives. A special lunch will be prepared while you are marveling the breathtaking western side of Napa Valley. Afterwards, guests are move to 1915 Pullman lounge to have coffee, cocktails and cocktails. Then, a transfer to a motor coach to visit the Raymond Vineyards winery.
The Raymond Vineyards is a family operated winery that has been around for the past thirty-five years. Guests may explore their facilities and they can even taste from the barrel. Great tasting of their selective reserves awaits the guests.
Afterwards, guests will return to motor coach to travel to Silverado trail, located on the eastern side of Napa Valley. Guests can visit here the ZD wines. ZD wines are organic and solar powered winery. The winemaking process is shown to the guests and a special tasting is available.
Domaine Chandon Winery Tour
This is a three-course gourmet lunch while you travel to northern side of Napa. Guests can enjoy the freshly created desserts while riding in a 1915 Pullman Lounge car. Afterwards, a transfer to a private shuttle will transport visitors to Domaine Chandon. The tour to Domaine Chandon will last for around an hour and it is directed by a Domaine Chandon host.
Domaine Chandon is known for its sparkling wines and visitors will have the chance to taste sparkling wines while they are visiting the place.
The tour is available on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. This tour is only available for twenty-one years and above. Visitors below twenty-one years of age are not allowed.
The Hilton Romance on Rails
This is one of the most popular winery dinner packages in the winery train. This is probably one of the most romantic getaways to ask your sweetie to marry you.
Couples will surely enjoy the era of pure romance while riding the Napa Valley Wine train. Guests will enjoy a great romantic dinner on board then enjoy the night at a very beautiful guest room in Hilton Garden Inn.
The price per couple is $299 and it is normally offered from November to March.
Things to Know about Napa Valley Train
• Non-smoking train. Napa Valley train is 100% non-smoking. All the station, observation decks and train cars all observed non-smoking area.
• Children. Children three to twelve years old are allowed in the train however, there are some restrictions. Child carriers and strollers are not allowed inside the train. Diaper changing is not also permitted and toilet may be very small. Toddlers may get restless during the trip but they may not be able to move anywhere without any adult supervision. It is best not to bring children that are under three years old.
• Reservation. All tours here in Napa Valley Train requires reservation and prices may vary depending on the tour, type of trip as well as the meal and wines that you may order.
