GUILIN - China
It is one of the most picturesque cities of China and an area of
unsurpassed beauty.
Guilin tourism offers stunning views, emerald green limestone karsts seemingly float on the
Li River making it magical landscape. The strangely shaped hills, wonderful
caves, the scenic views and historic treasures make Guilin a popular tourist
destination of China.
Location:
Guilin is located in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Elephant Trunk hill is regarded as the main symbol of Guilin tourism and it's landscape. It is situated south east of Guilin city and on the west bank of the Li river and has a history of 360,000,000 years. This large formation looks like a Elephant sipping water from the river with its long trunk. The Elephant has a cave between its legs and trunk which is in the shape of Moon and it penetrates through the hill. This is known amongst the locals of Guilin as 'Moon-over-water-cave'. This Elephant towers 55m above water, it is 108m long and 100m wide.
When the waves lap and the moonlight gleams, the scene is particularly breathtaking. There are more than 70 inscriptions from the Tang and Sand dynasties on the inside of the cave, praising the beauty of the nearby hills and waters. There's another cave which lies half way up the hill and serves as the Elephants eye, visitors can get beautiful views of the Guilin city from here. Travel and tourism is popular in this year, it is a must see spot for tourists.
Puxian Pagoda is another formation which looks like the handle of a sword and is situated on top of the hill. This Guilin tourism spot has several carvings and inscriptions on it, the most famous one is the poem by Lu Yu, a famous poet of the Southern Song dynasty.
Elephant Trunk Hill, Li River, Reed Flute Cave and Seven-Star Park that boasts of a Stone Museum where amazing geological findings are displayed.
Guilin is a developed tourist destination with economical to luxury hotels and restaurants. Transportation is not a problem, Guilin can be reached by Air, Bus or by Train.
