Mount Sinai (or Mount Moses) - Egypt
Located in the Sinai Peninsula, Mount Sinai is 2285 meters high and it is
believed that this is the place where Moses stayed for 10 days and waited to
receive the Ten Commandants. The cave where he waited is called the Moses cave .
It is believed this is the mountain where God gave laws to the Israelites.
The top of mountain has a Greek Orthodox chapel built in 1934 and a mosque, both of these are not open to the public. From the top of the mountain you can see amazingly beautiful views of dessert. This is a good travel and tourism place for both historic purpose and the beautiful sunrise one gets to see from these mountains
There are two popular routes which people take to reach Mount Sinai (Egypt), and recommended to always take a guide with you:
1. Siket El Bashait (Or the Camel way) This is less steep but longer and takes and takes about three hours to reach. It can be fully covered on foot or by taking camel on the way at Bedouin . People who want to travel easy or are not in the best shape should consider this route.
2.Siket Sayidna Musa (Steps of Repentance): ascends the 3,750 directly up the ravine behind the monastery.
Steps of Repentance meets the Camel Path in its last 750 steps on the way up at Elijah Basin. This is the point where you can decide to spend the night if you wish so in a rest hut. There is an old Cypress tree which carried religious and historic significance as God had spoken Elijah.
It is 100 km inland from the Red Sea coast on Egypt’s dusty Sinai Peninsular. Two Hours from Dahab, or ten hours from Cairo. It's about a 4 hour drive from Sharm El Sheikh and virtually all most do it to see the sunrise and climbing it requires an individual to be in good to moderate shape. People usually climb up Mount Sinai during the night to witness the sun rise. If you do that make sure you take warm cloths with you, because even during the summer, the temperature gets close to freezing at the top. Although both Israel and Saudi Arabia also purport to have found the sacred mountain within their respective borders, but Mount Sinai, Egypt is the one which draws the masses. Mount Sinai, Egypt is a great tourism location.
