Lake Pichola lies at the foothills of the Aravali hills in southern Rajasthan. It is a beautiful lake surrounded by stunning scenery. Lake Pichola is famous for the beautiful palaces that lie around its shoreline. The boat ride in the blue waters of the Lake Pichola, especially, in the backdrop of setting sun is enough to seduce anybody to come to it.

The main town in this area is Udaipur, also known as the city of lakes. Among its highlights are the City Palace and Museum, the Sajjangarh Palace which overlooks the lake from the top of a hill. The royal family use to come here in the summers during the monsoon season. There are several other palaces and temples along with picturesque streets, gardens and fountains along the Lake Pichola.

Lake Pichola is famous for the beautiful Island Palaces, the most popular one is the Jag Niwas palace which today is know as the Lake Palace Hotel and is made entirely of marble. This beautiful palace appears to float on the blue water giving it a spectacular look. Since this Palace has been converted into a magnificent heritage hotel, you can stay in this white marble palace and enjoy the breathtaking view of the surrounding. Jag Mandir, is a red stone complex on an Island of its own name, it has a cool courtyards and a small museum. The massive Jagdish temple lies within its complex. It is said that, the Jag Mandir was a refuge to Shah Jahan and an inspiration for the Taj Mahal.

Lake Pichola can be explored on a boat ride. A boat ride will cover most of the major and minor attractions around the lake. One can also wander along the bathing and washing ghats by the lakeside.
