The Republic of Mozambique is located in south-eastern Africa on the Indian
Ocean and is a famous tourist destination. It beautiful beaches and gorgeous
islands. From the developed capital city of Maputo to the charming coastal town
of Pemba, Mozambique is a great tourism destination. Most of the tourism on the
main island is done people by people taking travel packages rather going around
themselves.
Mozambique Island

The idyllic coral Mozambique Island is located 4 km from the coast from the mainland. Mozambique has a lot to offer from its colonial architecture and local cultures to its awesome landscape and warmth. This idyllic coral paradise was first settled by Vasco-da-Gama in 1498 and located near Madagascar. The architecture of this place is a blend of Portuguese, Indian and Arab influences. It was once a major port for trading of goods between Europe and East Indies.
The town was earlier settled mostly on the coast by eventually grew inwards overtime. The villagers live in houses made from wood and limestone. Mozambique Island has a population of about 60,000 people. This island has been proclaimed a World Heritage Site after the end of 1984 war. Since there is no source of fresh water many houses have a flat roof serve a source to collect the rain water. The island has temperate weather throughout the year with rains between November to April. Visitors can rent bikes from the local tourism office.
There are several attractions like Chapel of Nossa, the oldest and largest building is St. Sebastiao on the northern tip of the island built nearly 400 years ago. This is a solid 12 meter high colossus with 400 cannons all pointing towards the Indian Ocean. Since the 1960s the Mozambique Island has been connected to the mainland by a narrow bridge which is about 3 km in length. The languid breeze will rustle your hair. In about 30 minutes you will be able to traverse this island. The locals are friendly and welcome the visitors. The island is about 3 km long and between 200 and 500 meter wide. Most historical buildings are on the island's northern end.
