Blenheim - New Zealand
It is one of the largest town in the Marlborough region and
is located at the center of a premier wine making district making it a very
popular travel and tourism destination. The town has several fine restaurants
serving local food and wine. It also has a stylish public art gallery, a museum
and colonial Village along with beautiful gardens, theatres and cinemas. However
the main attraction of the town is wineries, the Marlborough region is the
largest producer of wine in New Zealand. Some of the wineries are open for
visitors, offering wine tasting and selling. During the second week of February,
Blenheim plays host to the Marlborough food and wine festival. Being one of the
sunniest towns in New Zealand, Blenheim is a year-round destination.
Location:
Blenheim is located at the northern tip of the South Island, it is 330km from
Christchurch and 30km from the Port of Picton.
Places of interest:
Montana Winery
This is a commercial and one of the most popular wineries of this area. It is
open for wine tasting and educational wine tour. The building is stunning and
has a nice picnic area as well as a restaurant.
Grove Mill:
This is more than a Blenheim wine tasting centre and has something for all age groups.
Along with wine tasting options there is also a sun dried tomato and olive
produce tasting area from another local producer, visitors including children
love this. There is also a wetland nature reserve that visitors can stroll
through and look for endangered frog species.
Another interesting place is the Quilters Barn. This is a small complex
consisting of homemade ice cream shop, liquor tasting room and craft galleries.
