The amazing Singapore Zoo is located in the forest area of central Singapore, almost
next to the Night Safari. Very few Zoos in the world can compare themselves with
the Singapore Zoo. It is spread out in an area of about 28 hectares. The zoo has
more than 150 different species living in spacious and comfortable enclosures.
About 20% of these are considered very rare . The enclosures are well spaced out
with a lot of Tall trees, long wild grasses, gingers, palms and bamboos forming a
lush rainforest-like ambience, therefore most tourists feel as if they are walking in a
natural environment rather than a man made one. Maps are provided at the entrance of
the Zoo and are quite easy to understand. You may be surprised to know but "some"
of these enclosures do not have a tall divider between the animals and you,
instead they are low fenced but a trench has been dug up or other natural barriers
are
around the enclosure which the animals cannot cross, this setup gives you a
clear sight of the wildlife (Enclosures of animals like tigers are obviously
well fenced). You will find White tigers, orangutan, elephants, polar bear,
crocodile, wolf, giraffe, kangaroo, rhinoceros, monkeys, reptiles and many
more. Singapore zoo attracts over a million tourists per year and gives a
pleasant experience of watching animals in a natural environment. The Zoo is
maintained and managed by Wildlife Reserves of Singapore. Singapore Zoo pictures
on this site are just a
preview, there is a lot more to be seen.
THINGS TO DO IN SINGAPORE ZOO:

- The "Breakfast with an Orangutan" is very famous among tourists. It enables the visitors to meet and interact closely with the orangutans in the Zoo, often accompanied by a person who has a python around his/her neck & shoulders. You can take pictures with them.
- Live commentary and feeding of zoo animals goes on quite often.
- Daily Shows: Wonders of the Wild includes shows from orangutans, sea lions and otters and other primates. Sometimes the host will invite a person from the spectators to be a part of the show.
- You will find a lot of souvenirs, T-shirts and other collectables in the visitor's center shops outside/entrance of the zoo. Food and drinks are also available.
