Tibet is a Plateau region at the centre of Asia, with an area of 2.5 million
square kilometers. Tibet borders Xinjiang, Qinghai, Sichuan and Yunnan
internally while India, Burma, Bhutan, Sikkim, and Nepal meet its external
borders. It is the highest region on earth and is also known as "the roof of
the world".
The valley bottoms of Tibet are higher than the highest mountains elsewhere. According to archeological discovery, Tibetan history can be traced to 4,000 years ago. Until the beginning of the 20th century, Tibet remained unknown to the world, however in today's time, Tibet sees a growing number of tourists each year. Its majestic scenery, mysterious and exotic religious culture, and friendly people, reward every tourist with an mesmerizing life long memory. Tourists can visit local families and experience the daily life of Tibetan people.
This remote land, of culture, of wide open spaces, gilt-roofed temples, and intricately decorated monasteries, is dominated by the ancient holy city of Lhasa. Lhasa, literally meaning "the Holy Land", is the heart and soul of Tibet and has a history of more than 1,300 years. Lhasa is the capital city of Tibet and is the most popular tourist destination of the country.
Tibet tourism offers excellent trekking areas, which also provide the visitors a chance to sightsee the Buddhist monasteries and get a glimpse of the cultural heritage of Tibet. There are also excellent opportunities for Jeep safari trips and mountaineering towards the Tibetan side of the Everest.
Best time to visit:
August to October are the most pleasant months in Tibet with highest percentage of oxygen, making it the best season for travel and tourism.
