Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest national park, spread out in
an area of 3840 square kilometers. The main attraction of this park is the
Murchison Falls ( or Kabalega Falls) on the Nile river. The Nile falls
vertically through a 7 meter gap into the river below.
The best way to enjoy this magnificent fall is by river cruise. There is a massive Hippo population on the base of these falls, you may also see Elephant, hartebeest, giraffe, buffalo, crocodiles and countless antelope and birds. On the southern back of the falls, there are Bat cliffs and thousands of bats swarm them in the evening. It is best to have an official guide and/or vehicle for entering the area in order to make your travel and tourism experience more comfortable.
Animals like antelopes, buffaloes, giraffes and elephants live in the north-west savannas of park, while the south west portion is mostly thick rainforest where you will find monkeys, baboons and chimpanzees. Some tourists take a 2 hour launch trip from below the falls up towards the ravine. There are several good hotels near the Murchison Falls. Activities also include sport fishing. There is a riverside Nile Safari Camp and has a very romantic ambience. Accommodation is in beautifully designed waterside log cabins each with its own internal tent, terrace, bathroom and outside shower. There is an al-fresco restaurant and small gift shop. Watching a stunning sunset from the friendly bar is a must.
How to get there:
Public transport is available up to Masindi (97 Km). Taxis will take you up to the Murchison Falls National Park.
The prime area for game-viewing is the peninsula between the Victoria and the Albert Niles, known as the Buligi Circuit. The concentration of animals is highest in this area, and the lush patches of forest along the waterways and the conspicuous Borassus Palms, dotting the ridges and valleys in-between, add to the attraction of the park's landscape. You will find kingfisher, fish eagle, carmine bee-eater and many more. Murchison Falls National Park is an ideal place for travel and tourism for nature lovers.
