Tough many still associate the Republic Democratic of Congo with war. An
unbelievable amount has been achieved since 2003 - stability, order and future
vision for tourism industry. Last year 2006 about 2.500 tourists climbed the
active Nyiragongo volcano located in the eastern part of the county at around 17
km of Goma.
2001 tourist visited the mountain Gorillas in the Virunga national park. 400 visited the eastern low land Gorillas, in Kahuzi Biega national Park, 500 visited the Okapi in Epulu, around 5000 visited the LOLA YA BONOBO in the south east Congo, And organized boat trip on the river has started being organized by some tour operators. Congolese people were happy to see " Bazungus" coming back in their country for Gorillas tracking. Because of this the Congolese government has made excellent and vital policy choice to reduce the number of security forces on major airport and has started arresting any body who harass a tourist.
The government of Congo Drc is doing all her best to give Congo her image which the country lost since 1994 the year which marked the beginning of instability in the country. There is hope that this year the number of visitors will increase as the government has also started to rebuild all the infrastructures. In the next article we will discus various aspect of tourism and development and how the visit to Bonobos, Congo river cruise, Gorillas Tours can be organized.
